With the end of summer quickly approaching, Center for Independent Futures (CIF) participants and staff eagerly anticipated their upcoming adventure at Graduate Life Tools camp 2012. Excitement was abuzz at the South Haven cabin as everyone settled in and began planning the week’s meals, grocery list and activities. As in years past, the entire group captured their goals on large poster paper and referred to them throughout the week to keep track of their progress and accomplishments.

As always, Campers had many opportunities to work on their CIF Full Life Model™ My Place circle goals around cooking skills, meal prep, housework, laundry and doing dishes while at camp. Oh boy, was there a lot of work to be done!

In addition, goals in the other Full Life Model™ circles including Connections, Fun & Talents and Wellness were also touched upon. The group bonded while watching movies & eating popcorn, hiking the Kal Haven Trail, splashing around at the beach, playing bocce ball and getting lunch and ice cream in town. It was a great week and we are already looking forward to next year!

The following are just a few Graduate Camper stories…and a link to our photos!

Ted Lauren David Jonathon Stefan
  • Ted learned a bit of Italian and a new joke to take home.
  • Lauren reminded us that working out can be fun! (Especially when you sweat to the oldies with Richard Simmons.)
  • David showed us that a positive attitude can brighten any situation and his goal of learning to clean the bathroom wasn't so hard to accomplish after all.
  • Jonathon accomplished his goals around communicating better with others and enjoyed his time hiking the Kal Haven Trail and walking the beach.
  • Stefan taught us that we shouldn't take life so seriously and that friendship is the ONLY thing that matters in the end.

Staff members Loretta, Tara and Jeff were thrilled that the campers accomplished so many of their goals and had such a good time. They were so inspired by the bonds that were created at camp this year.
